The FISH Rule

I teach my medical students when they are examining women the mnemonic ‘FISH’ rule – Breast Cancer is usually FIXED in the breast with an IRREGULAR surface is a SINGLE (not multiple) lump and is HARD.

I encourage women to seek medical attention if they find a lump in their breasts with these characteristics – sort of like finding a walnut stuck deep within the breast.
